Assume that you are in a job interview for a position in your field. The interviewer is using situational and behavioral questions to test your thought processes and to find out how you have reacted in specific situations. For each of the following two questions, write your response as you would deliver it in the interview. First question: Your supervisor has just told you that she is dissatisfied with your work, but you think it’s acceptable. How would you resolve the conflict? I will always try my best to meet my supervisor’s expectations of work, even if I am not sure whether or not they are expectations I should meet. I think my supervisor is being unfair when he thinks I am not doing my best work. I do not want to give in to him. I do not think I am doing my best work. I would like to try to change that. I know I am not doing my best work, but that is not really what matters to me. I do not think It is acceptable for my supervisor to be dissatisfied with my work. I know my supervisor is always trying to do his best work, and I appreciate that. I do not want to make things difficult for him by telling him that I am not satisfied with his expectations of me. I am not sure what I should do about the situation. I do not think either of us is satisfied, and I think our best way to solve this problem is for us to come to some sort of agreement. I do not think my supervisor is giving me enough encouragement to do my best work. I would like her to be more specific when she tells me what she thinks I am doing wrong. I think my supervisor is being unfair. She is trying to set impossible standards for me. I am not sure what to do about the situation. I do not want to hurt my supervisor’s feelings. I think I should do my best work without any help or guidance from her. I think my supervisor is being unreasonable and unfair to me. I would like her to listen to what I say and discuss my ideas with me instead of giving me a no just because she has her opinion. I think I can do my best work without help or guidance from my supervisor (Djoemadi et al., 2019).
To convince a person to see things your way may be as simple as describing something in an alternative way. For instance, if you were having a discussion about the color blue and your opponent asserted that the sky was white, you might be able to persuade him of that idea by making it clear that the sky was blue. It is also a good idea to focus on how you will be able to convince the other person about something you want him to believe in. For instance, It is not enough to show that you are right if you want him to become a supporter of your cause. To convince him of something, you should also indicate how you will convince him. The following example shows how a politician’s campaign strategy could be successful in persuading a population that the politician is right about how the country is doing. This politician is appealing to the voter with a fear of the future. Specifically, he indicates that the nation is currently experiencing a crisis of its infrastructure. He claims that because of the nation’s current lack of money, a new city is going to tear down a wall surrounding its water treatment plant. The politician is claiming that with this new water treatment plant, the nation is going to be able to drink clean water and therefore its residents will have a better future. Because this politician is appealing to a voter’s fear of the future, he is able to persuade the voter to support his idea. The voter does not understand the water treatment plant and its possible effects on the nation. Instead, he feels safe to support the politician because he is going to convince the voter to trust his knowledge about the effects of water treatment plants (Boerman, Willemsen, & Van Der Aa, 2017).

Yes, I realize that you are dissatisfied with the stir, however I thought that I have accomplished what I have set out to do. I just am not happy with the look of it, but it is what I was told to do. I appreciate your feedback. This would, I believe, be a lie and I do not think this approach would be well received. This next approach I have used with some success: She does not say anything to me in-person but she is a bit more vocal on the phone. She says something to the effect of She needs my stir to be checked and she knows that is something that I am not willing to do. She knows that I know and I think that is a problem. This has happened before with someone else and it ended poorly. I am not saying that this is where I want it to be. In fact, I think I should be rewarded for a job well done. However, I think that I have done my part in the best way that I can. I am going to go home now, however this is something that I am looking forward to talking with you about. My main thought on this is that if she does not ask me directly, I do not want to think that I need to keep working on this. If she is honest with me then we can talk about a way forward (Shobe, 2018).
For convincing someone to go along with your views, for example during negotiations, the persuader may have to understand their attitude toward the issue in question, and find common ground. They then need to focus on making a constructive argument that moves them to see things their way. In that case, they are being persuasive to do so. As an example, in the context of politics, the persuader may decide to focus on the importance of the matter in question, such as national security. They may therefore start by highlighting the negative consequences of not complying, and/or by arguing that certain alternatives pose even more risks. For convincing someone to give their support to a cause, the persuader may be trying to change someone’s opinion, influence them or encourage them to take action. In that case, they are being persuasive. If you can identify situations in which you were persuasive in the past, list them and explain why you were able to convince others. If you can, give an example of a situation in which you did not persuade someone to agree with you. In many ways, It is simply easier to argue for something using logic, than it is to argue for something using emotions. If you have a really solid argument to back up a particular cause, It is probably easier to just stick to the facts rather than try to make someone feel bad about being a man (Zartman, 2019).
