The final Critical Analysis assignment is designed to evaluate everything that you have learned all semester in regards to summary writing, analysis, and evaluating arguments.
Instructions
Your final assignment is to complete a Critical Analysis paper. A Critical Analysis paper is composed of two parts: a) Summary and b) Analysis. In sum, you will be summarizing and analyzing one reading chosen by your professor.
Evaluation
Please review the rubric attached which will provide you with detailed information on how your Critical Analysis will be evaluated.
A successful Critical Analysis will:
Identify the author’s thesis
Paraphrase the major arguments
Arrange the paraphrases into a logically ordered summary
Outline how the author makes his/her argument
Evaluate the argument in terms of Logos, Pathos, and Ethos (expert opinion, personal experience, logic and statistics).
Cite specific passages and demonstrate how they function within the overall argument
Identify any significant strengths or weaknesses of the argument (or a mixture of both) and tie them back to the claims of the argument (evaluation)
Formatting
Your summary must be double-spaced with 1” marginson all sides and in a 12 point (Times New Roman or similar) font.Use proper APA formatting (title page, reference page).
