The obligations the U.S. government has towards its citizens is to continue to keep the government operating as a democracy. This impacts individual and group rights by standing up for and protecting everyone’s civil rights and holding true to constitutional obligations. This also goes hand in hand with the Bill of Rights stating the federal government cannot overrun the people or overpower them. If someone breaks the law, they have every right to trial and have the ability to defend themselves or have defense provided for them.
I’m sure there’s something that’s happened to me firsthand that I could reference as an example, but I honestly can’t think of one that I’ve experienced that sticks out. The Equal Protection Clause was created to support everyone being treated equally. Whether it be race, gender, sexual preference, or age, following with the accordance to the Constitution, should be treated the same. Years ago, women weren’t permitted to join the military, they could only take care of the men soldiers by providing medical, clothing and food. As time passed women were able to work telephone systems for the military then working aircraft maintenance jobs, but still not equal to men serving. Nor could they get paid as the men did. Finally, around 1948 women were finally able to hold the same jobs, positions, and get paid equally to men. This is an example of how the U.S. government had obligations to make women’s rights to join the military equal for citizens.
Each of the different parties’ share similar positions and views, everyone should be able to live their life free from sacrifice of our rights and all be treated equally. At some point, all of the parties recognized the issues with individual freedoms and not only made women’s’ rights equal, but they expanded those rights to blacks and slowly increasing other equal rights for all.
